Monday Vintage Finds: Cupid's Arrow lock and key FOR SALE!

I'm still hooked on the lock and key idea ... one lovebird holding the lock and the other holding the key {for engagement photos or a killer save the date} and so whenever I come across a vintage lock that leaps out at me because it has a special shape or saying or design, I typically scarf it up and that's just what I did with this cute duo above.

I found the sweet pair on another antiquing excusion to Alabama and as soon as I saw the "cupid's arrow," I was smitten ... and then to find that it actually had the working key to go with it - I was beyond excited! And I love how rusty and weathered the key is!!

Details on the Cupid's Arrow lock and key {shown above}:

The lock is in good vintage condition and the key opens and locks it easily. It is approximately 1" tall. There is some rusting on the key from age but I find the distressed look only adds to the charm. They make an adorable pair together for photo ops and just sitting together as decor.

May Thursdays with Love + Lavender, p.4: Hydrangeas

So thrilled to welcome back the charming pair of Love + Lavender, Aileen and Ellen, who have been guest posting every Thursday this month here on Classic Bride. Today the girls will be sharing one last pretty board with us - all about hydrangeas ... my favorite! Let's swoon together ... :

For our last post, we decided to highlight the hydrangea. Hydrangeas have full, lush blooms with muted colors that play well into a vintage summer wedding with subtle seaside elements. Soft blues and greys would keep the color palette subdued, while white chandeliers would twinkle from the trees, overlooking tables decorated with candle-filled seashells and antique blue mason jars filled with hydrangeas. The bride would wear a dress with layers of closely packed ruffles paired with classic white heels and a crystal headband. A spread of various cheeses and crackers would make perfect appetizers, whetting the guests' appetite for a delicious seafood meal. A white cake with intricate details would top the meal off perfectly.

Wednesday Nesting: Pennants {+ 4 for sale}

I love the feel vintage pennants emit ... collegiate and spirited and optimistic ... they're so much fun to decorate with, too ... in the office or guestroom ... they provide a little bit of history and interest.

I also think they'd be super fun to use as decor in a wedding - especially if you and your love are from the same hometown or went to the same university, etc.

Here's the info on the two little ones above:

Two Fort Myers, Fla. pennants
Each measures approximately 12" long and 4.5" wide. They are in good vintage condition with no rips or tears. The maroon one is just missing one of its tassels.

The "Tulane" pennant measures approximately 27" long and 10.5" wide. The "Philadelphia, PA" pennant measures approximately 22.5" long and 8" wide. Both are in good vintage condition and the "Philadelphia, PA" pennant has no rips or tears. The "Tulane" pennant does have 4 holes along the "T" from age ... it is thought to date back to the 1940s because of the style of helmet featured.

About tatting:
Tatting dates to the early 19th century. The term for tatting is derived from French frivolité, which refers to the purely decorative nature of the textiles produced by this technique. The technique was developed to imitate point lace. Tatting is a technique for handcrafting a particularly durable lace constructed by a series of knots and loops .. it can be used to make lace edging and is formed by a pattern of rings and chains. Gaps can be left between the stitches to form picots, which are used for practical construction as well as decorative effect.

Adorable Vintage Aprons {FOR SALE!}

Last time I was at my parents' house, my Mom gave me the most amazing collection of vintage aprons I've ever seen ... what's even cooler is that several were my great-grandmother's and she actually made them by hand out of old feedsacks from her small farm! As my Mom was laying the aprons out, one after another, I was awestruck by the exquisite detailing ... the gorgeously vibrant colors ... the authentic vintage feel ... I felt like I was in an Anthropologie store except this was 100x better because these aprons weren't wannabe reproductions ... they were really used in bygone eras by wives and moms who loved to look chic and pretty while cooking and baking for those they loved. :o)

While I'm happily donning several of the sentimental pretties now while I bake up goodies in my own kitchen, I thought I'd share three of the beauties with my dear readers ... The apron does have one worn spot/hole in the front near the pocket but I honestly feel that it just adds to the rustic heirloom feel of the gorgeous fabric.

Southern shoot sneak peek + mirror for auction!

Oh my gosh, I had a ball styling a little Southern-inspired photoshoot here in Mississippi yesterday! I'll share more later but I wanted to pop in and share a sneak preview of one of the elements we included - the fabulous vintage mirror {that is actually up for auction right now! So bid away if you like. (o: }

We used the mirror as a menu board {How cool is that?! The idea was inspired by this post} and hung the lovely on a tree in the idyllic little field we found ... I can't even fathom how gorgeous it would be if used in a wedding ... you could use it as a menu board or to list out your signature cocktails ... or direct guests in the direction of your ceremony venue ... you could even write sweet nothings on it and use it as a fun prop with your newly-minted hubby. ;o)

I also started thinking what a beautiful + personal touch it would be to write out a phrase, song lyric or poem on the mirror that means something special to the bride and groom. How lovely would it be above the guestbook table or even as the focal point behind the altar flanked by some gorgeous florals? I loooove that the specially-chosen words would be {literally} reflecting the couple, if used behind the altar. :o)

And then, after the wedding, you could hang it in your home and write sweet little love notes back and forth with your husband. ;o)

And, of course, the mirror is also entirely swoon-worthy all on its own ... perfect for getting-ready shots, as shown below {from my own wedding featured in Wedding Style Guide magazine}:

So thrilled to welcome back the darling duo of Love + Lavender, Aileen and Ellen, who are guest posting every Thursday this month here on Classic Bride. Today the girls will be sharing how delightful a wedding can be ... especially when it's overflowing with gorgeous peonies  ... Let's take a peek, shall we?:

Pink peonies are the classic springtime wedding flower. With their layers of ruffled petals, they are whimsical and unabashedly girly. We envisioned a blooming meadow with the afternoon sun reflecting off elegant pieces of furniture brought outdoors. For the centerpieces, peonies would sit in milkglass vases with accents of gold tastefully sprinkled throughout. The bride would wear a full, ruffly dress with glittery shoes peeking out from beneath. A simple cake with a sugar peony would complete this affair!

Quatre Coeur love ...

I. am. in. love ... with Quatre Coeur's hand-made fabric florals ... seriously, in love! The girls actually sent me a version of that top dahlia bouquet and it looks even more amazing in person {if that's possible} ... it totally reminds me of something a sugar plum fairy would carry down the aisle ... I think these fabric floral bouquets would be such fun gifts for bridesmaids ... they are so unique and original and would be a truly lovely keepsake.

{My} Vintage Wedding Mirror AUCTION! Place your bids now!

I've decided to part with another celebrated piece from our wedding - my gorgeous vintage mirror - and I thought another auction would be a fun way to say goodbye!

ABOUT
I found this darling vintage mirror at a little boutique in Alabama. It's actually from the 1960s, refurbished with a distressed look and I immediately fell in love ... it just seemed to emanate that classic bridal look I wanted in my wedding! I used the mirror for last-minute touchups while I was getting ready on the day of our wedding and the photos turned out so stunningly divine that one ended up gracing the pages of Wedding Style Guide magazine {as seen above} along with a feature on our wedding.

The mirror features a deliciously feminine and frilly design which undeniably echoes the lines and curves of delicate Alençon lace ... thus, the mirror almost creates a magical effect when reflecting a lacy bridal gown in photos ... the two just sing in unison together.

The mirror measures approximately 33" in length and 21" in width and is a relatively light piece.

Glammed-up teepees

How cool is this glammed-up indoor teepee? I'm so wanting to create one of these little escapes {complete with decadent chandelier} to dine beneath in our living room! Ha. :o)

And, back in wedding mode, wouldn't these tents be delightful enclaves for guests to relax and enjoy themselves? I love the idea of having several sprinkled throughout a courtyard wedding ... or they'd be a really fun and unexpected touch in a city loft ... I'm imagining lots of string lights, too.

Hi again! We are excited to be back at Classic Bride and sharing a board based around another of our favorite flowers - the anemone!

Anemones are beautiful, modern, and a little bit sassy. Inspired by how their bold black centers stand out graphically against the white petals, we designed a winter wedding full of contrasting blacks and whites. We love how the bride would stand out in her white dress against the black attire of the wedding party. Accents of black and white from the seating chart to the favors would make everything flow and the cake adorned with edible anemones would be a perfect touch of elegance!

A Sunday kind of Love ...

Pearls always put a smile on my face. Aren't they so cheerful? Even clustered in a bowl, they look bright and fresh and lovely.

I'm imagining a wedding filled with milkglass compotes overflowing with pale pink pearls and dripping white candles ...

May Thursdays with Love + Lavender, p.1: Lavender

I am soooo excited to tell you this fun news ... The very lovely Aileen and Ellen of Love + Lavender will be guest posting every Thursday this month here on Classic Bride and you get to enjoy a healthy dose of their delicious design and insight today! Before I gab on and on, let me turn it over to the talented duo to introduce their first fabulous wedding board of the series ... It's all yours, girls:

We are so honored to be guest posting this month on Classic Bride. Sarah has such impeccable taste and we've been reading Classic Bride since before we even starting blogging ourselves! Our Thursday posts on CB will be based on four different flowers that we've used as inspiration for weddings in each season.

First up, we decided to focus on one of our favorite flowers, lavender!

We obviously have a soft spot for the bloom, since it is in our name. Lavender is such a romantic and timeless flower and it just seemed natural to pair it with the city of romance - Paris. We envisioned a fall wedding with rustic elements like twine and weathered vintage keys in the decor. The bride would wear a lace gown with classic pearl jewelry and a vintage brooch would be pinned on her fragrant lavender bouquet. Lavender-colored accents in the china place settings, the cake, and the French macarons would tie into the theme.

Gorgeously unique chalkboard FOR SALE! SOLD!

Another goodie for sale today! When I found this unique vintage frame in an antique shop, I immediately knew it would make a perfect chalkboard so I got to work painting and sanding and spraying and cutting to transform this pretty frame into a fabulous chalkboard.

About the Chalkboard:

The frame is vintage and there are a few plaster/decor pieces that are missing, which you can see in the photos if you look closely. That said, I think they're barely noticeable and the visual result tends to add to the charming vintage vibe of the piece. The chalkboard was professionally installed and works perfectly. It measures approximately 32.5" tall and 20.5" wide.

There are so many fun possibilities for this adorable piece ... I think it would make an excellent 'Menu' board for a rehearsal dinner or wedding ... It could be a different take on a coloring book to keep the children entertained ... Perhaps an ever-changing guestbook ... Or a sign directing guests to the wedding, reception, rehearsal dinner, etc., etc. And, of course, after your event, you could absolutely put it to good use in your home! It would look great hanging in the kitchen with recipes scrawled or hanging in your foyer to scribble your to-dos. Such a deliciously versatile decor piece!
